Impact on Others

Continuing to look at John the Baptist in the book of Luke.  Looking at the impact of His birth (remember he is called to prepare the way of the Lord).  A quick summary of Zacharias, his father's response earlier in Luke when the Angel came to tell Zacharias he would have a child in his old age.
Luke 1: 19-20
And the angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and was sent to speak to you and bring you these glad tidings.  But behold, you will be mute and not able to speak until the day these things take place, because you did not believe my words which will be fulfilled in their own time.”
and so he spent the months waiting for his son unable to speak... but upon his birth he responds in obedience.
Luke 1: 63-66
And  Zacharias asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, saying, “His name is John.” So they all marveled. Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he spoke, praising God.  Then fear came on all who dwelt around them; and all these sayings were discussed throughout all the hill country of Judea.  And all those who heard them kept them in their hearts, saying, “What kind of child will this be?” And the hand of the Lord was with him.
Even in our fear and disbelief God shows us His grace and mercy and allows us to be a part of His plan.  Family, friends and this city were impacted by Zacharias and the birth of John.  How will you impact those you have influence on this Christmas season?

Later in the book of  Luke it is recorded that Zacharias and Elizabeth's son John is in his mother's womb. God's plan for John is to for him to prepare the way of the Lord.
Luke 1:41-44
And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.  Then she spoke out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!   But why is this granted to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?   For indeed, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.
Notice, the babe leaped for joy. As you are preparing your heart, are you "leaping for joy" in expectation of Christ's coming?

Calvary Chapel Breath of Life Women's Ministry happenings. 

Have you heard this from anyone lately?  I'm so busy.  I'm crazy busy.  Or maybe even said it yourself. It seems we are racing so many of the hours of the day -- so many things to do. Our days might be filled with good and necessary things but I'm suggesting it's time for a pause.
Today is December 1st let's catch our breath and "Journey to Bethlehem" together. 
If you haven't already started, you will probably soon being doing all kinds of things to prepare for Christmas. What are you doing to prepare spiritually for Christ this season?


Luke 1: 13- 17 But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer is heard; and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John.   And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth.   For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will also be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb.  And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God.   He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, ‘to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”
